Game on, everyone!
America sighs and cheers!
Wow. Did you see that?
The NFL is back and week 1 was insane. In addition to the extra Prime Time game on Monday night, the first week of the 2014 season provided plenty of games and plenty of shocks.
First, the impact of Fantasy Football is more apparent than ever. In addition to all the commercials for Draft King, the NFL’s fantasy, and CBS’s version, the emergence of fantasy football has made Allen Hurns, a wide receiver from Jacksonville, an instant celebrity. He’ll also be the most picked up player this week and I hope he can rack up 23 points again to show he belongs.
The Titans and Vikings provided surprising lopsided road wins. The Jaguars looked to be doing the same up 17-0 at halftime, but Jacksonville never scored in the 2nd half and gave up 34 unanswered points.
On the losing end, many teams surprised the NFL World with horrible showings. I doubt anyone expected the Packers to only score 16, the Chiefs 10, the Redskins 6, and the Rams 6.
The final contest of the weekend provided an unlikely score of 18-17 with the Cardinals winning late on Monday night.
The Dolphins might have been the upset surprise beating the visiting Patriots by 13. I’m pretty sure the Patriots were a survivor pick in many NFL office pools (some office pools have a contest to pick the team that will not lose and the Patriots have been a good choice over the last couple of years).
Week 2 starts tomorrow and the trends will continue to play out. Are the Ravens able to rally after last week’s loss of a game and Ray Rice? Are the Dolphins or Bills a new power in the AFC East? I can’t wait to find out!
